The Way of the Whiteboard: Persuading with Pictures

Saturday, March 21, 2009
Hear Dan Roam talk about persuading people with pictures. Whether convincing leadership to back a project, getting a VC to fund a business, building consensus on a project team, or selling a new technology platform within an organization, nothing is more powerful than a simple picture for discovering and developing technological concepts and business ideas. This session shows how to use the pictures we've created to persuade other people to take action.

Dan has helped leaders at Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Boeing, and the United States Senate solve complex problems through visual thinking. Dan and his whiteboard have been featured on CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, Fox News, and NPR.

Excellent presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot about the psychology of how we visually learn and appreciate information. I am definitely a borderline "black pen"/"yellow pen" person and I feel that drawing can not only help solve problems and sell ideas, but drawing is just darn stress-releaving! :) Nice job Dan! Thanks for signing my book!

  • This is a real eye-opener. I had dismissed Dan's book before and I'm not sure why, but having seen this I have just ordered a copy. I think it will be really interesting to try solving with complex problems in this visual manner and I am eager to give it a go. Now how do I add a drawing to this comment ;-)

As a trained illustrator who is getting into programming through visual design, I was surprised people don't already know these tricks! They are essential, enjoyable parts to my problem solving for every project. They're extremely effective to clarify the problem and communicate a proposed solution. I'm glad this lecture is at Mix09
